Thank you for discovering our blog, and welcome! Here is where you will find photos and updates about what we do at Windy Field Farms, located in beautiful Ontario, Canada. Our family run farm is pretty small, but we feel we make a big contribution. For 12 years, we grew specialty mushrooms (shiitake, blue/brown/yellow oyster mushrooms and cinnamon caps) indoors, but have now wrapped up that part of our farm operation. You can read more about why here. We cash crop, growing only non-GMO crops, such as open-pollinated corn, heritage oats, forage peas, soybeans and barley. We use many of these crops to blend non-GMO (and about 80% organic) animal feed, for laying hens, broilers, pigs, horses and goats. Our own chickens and horses love it!
In recent years, we have added a market garden and greenhouse, which provides produce for our family, as well as some for retail, in season.
Every once in a while, I get on my soap box, when I feel passionately about a topic. I’m always open to your comments, so please enjoy reading, and let me know what you think!
If you’re interested in hearing more about the GMO issues, seed sovereignty, etc, check out Ralph’s blog, Ralph’s Corn-er.
Many thanks,
Julie (and Ralph) Baumlisberger

I saw your home made bread picture and it was connected to red fife wheat. Do you ha ve a recipe you use for red fife flour?

I actually use a blend of Red Fife, Spelt, (and sometimes corn and rye, too!)

Hi Julie… I tried to link to your blog at talk2momz but so far I can’t get it to ‘take’. Thank you for such a nice blog – I’ll keep trying to link… but just in case, I wanted you to know your blog and your expertise are appreciated.

Oh wow! I am just listening to your Alchemy Radio interview right now….Your words speak so directly to me, I feel like I should be stopping my dinner preparations and taking notes. A kindred Reiki friend suggested I read or listen to your material. I am so grateful and blessed that I have. Thank you!

Hello, I attend church with your mom-in-law and she has been telling me a lot about your enterprise. I have recently started my own foray into healthy, locally-sourced food and was so pleased to have found this post on the web. Thank you for sharing your thoughts!

Sounds great, glad to have found you! We’re a little smallholding in the UK, growing veg and raising a few pigs…I’m interested in permaculture, sustainable living, and finding out where my food comes from. I’m lucky to have space to grow some of my own food, and to live in a rural area with lots of great food producers. I love small farms!!
